We have more competitors than ever which means people are: (a) less likely to stay loyal, (b) have more choice where to give, (c) lots of new and innovative ideas we haven't kept pace with.

We are also now new and exciting, we are perceived as legacy
In addition to the above, many "startup" charities do not focus on retention so this tends to shift the whole direction of the industry.
